Stags and Hens

By Willy Russell
Directed by Mark Babych

Originally conceived as a film script for acting students at Manchester Polytechnic Theatre School (now Manchester School of Theatre at MMU), Willy Russell's Stags and Hens offers a telling portrait of working class values in 1970's Britain. When Linda unwittingly decides to hold her hen party at the same venue as that chosen for the stag night of her future husband, the ensuing confrontation serves to animate hidden tensions and resentments on both sides of the gender divide. When her pop-star ex-boyfriend arrives on the scene, Linda is forced to face a few home truths…

Hilariously funny, moving, thought provoking and at times shocking, Russell's play remains as enthralling and captivating now as it was over thirty years ago.
