The Secret Rapture

By David Hare
Directed by David Salter

Estranged sisters Isobel and Marion are forced to reunite when their father dies, leaving them to deal with their young, alcoholic stepmother, Katherine, who’s desperate to reinvent herself. When Marion suggests that she and her husband invest in Isabel’s small business and make Katherine a partner, Isabel’s life falls apart: Irwin grows jealous, Katherine's tenuous hold on sanity unravels and Isabel’s firm is asset stripped by her own sister. Set amid the greed and vanity of the Thatcher years, Hare’s beautifully constructed play explores with painful clarity the irony that good people bring out the worst in everyone around them.
