Fefu and Her Friends

By Maria Irene Fornes
Directed by Paul Robinson

Fefu and Her Friends follows eight women throughout the rooms of a house on a single day in Spring. The events of the play are in some ways less important than the emotional and psychological dynamics of the characters and the play still has academics and dramaturgs arguing about what it is "about". The truth is no one really knows. Stylistically avant garde (she was hugely influenced by Samuel Beckett) and sometimes wilfully obscure the play has had a lasting impact on those who have seen it and many still admire its acute and unapologetic illustration of women.
