Movement Practice for Theatre

You will study

A taught course designed to train movement directors and teachers for theatre and those interested in the practical and academic research of movement.

There is a three-day weekly taught programme for the first two terms. The first half of term one includes movement, bodywork, pure movement (Trish Arnold), Alexander Technique, anatomy, voice, text work, dance and Contact Improvisation. The second half of term one is based in the work of Monika Pagneux led by Annabel Arden and others. The third term is communication, group work, workshop leadership and teacher training.  The course also includes study visits to Poland and the USA.

Assessment

Seminar presentations, essays, practice, learning journals, teaching practice and placements.

Placements

Placements take place on one day each week during term two and over four weeks in term three. Placements may be in a drama school, as a movement director in a company, or in a Third World country where movement is used as part of theatre for development.

Graduates

This course is designed for those interested in teaching movement, being movement directors or using movement for development purposes.

Entry Requirements

You will normally have an undergraduate honours degree or appropriate proven experience in a relevant field. You will also be required to complete an audition, interview and workshop.
